United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has shared the information in a report that over half of the children of Ukraine (4.3 million) has been shifted to another place since the start of Russia’s full-scale military operation against Ukraine.
As per the information provided by the sources, on March 24, by the UNICEF, the war in Ukraine has led to the displacement of more than 1.8 million young ones who have been shifted into the neighbouring countries or the border sharing nations as refugees and currently, 2.5 million children who have been displaced into Ukraine.
Moreover, the war-torn nation has a child population of around 7.5 million, and such data indicates that over fifty percent of them have either left their country or their home into another safer place.
The Executive Director of UNICEF named, Catherine Russell, mentioned, “The war has caused one of the fastest large-scale displacements of children since World War II. This is a grim milestone that could have lasting consequences for generations to come. Children’s safety, wellbeing and access to essential services are all threatened by non-stop horrific violence”.”
On the other hand, The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has highlighted that around 78 children have been murdered and another 105 have been wounded since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Rusell further added, “Children urgently need peace and protection. They need their rights. UNICEF continues to appeal for an immediate cease-fire and for the protection of children from harm. Essential infrastructure on which children depend, including hospitals, schools, and buildings sheltering civilians, must never come under attack.”
