China is no longer taking preventive steps to halt the COVID spread of the nation as well as is letting the citizens roam and travel freely as they like, adding that this might come to a head in a situation similar to 2022 when the infection spread all over the world from Wuhan, as per the Hong Kong Post.
According to the data shared by Asian News International (ANI), the nation is attempting to infect its entire population with COVID, in order to acquire herd immunity and shift its attention back to economic growth.
The reports indicate that the situation is chaotic on the ground as well as that hundreds of individuals are losing their lives.
However, the Government of China has rejected proposals from Western nations to provide Beijing with stronger as well as more potent vaccinations, in an effort to stop the spread of COVID.
The European Union (EU) has put forward COVID vaccines to China to aid the nation in controlling the mass outbreak of infections, as per the reports. Moreover, the offer was made in response to the Chinese-manufactured Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines’ failure to induce immunity against Covid.
Further, the reports stated that the ongoing COVID wave in the nation had observed Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Wuhan and other urban areas struggling to contain the outbreak, with the hospitals overwhelmed and mortuaries full.
As per the Cable News Network (CNN), COVID cases have increased in China after the authorities halted its ‘Zero-Covid’ policy.
The government of China have been finding it tough to track the number of COVID infections in the nation since mass testing was stopped, as per the reports.
On Wednesday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) accused China of under-representing the seriousness of the COVID outbreak, as per the reports by CNN.
On Wednesday, during a media briefing in Geneva, the Director-General of WHO-World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, mentioned in the statement that they continue to request more reliable, rapid and regular data on the deaths and number of people that have been admitted to the hospitals, as well as more comprehensive, real-time viral sequencing.
He further added to the statement that World Health Organisation is worried about the risk to the life in China and has emphasised the need for vaccination, including booster doses, to prevent hospitalisation, serious illness, and death.
President of China, Xi Jinping, supported his COVID policy, during his public address in the New Year, and outlined it as well-thought-out and rational.
In his first public address of the New Year, the President did not tell about the government’s unpreparedness as well as the sudden withdrawal of the ‘Zero-Covid’ policy, leading to an increase in cases all over the country, as per the Geo-Politik.
The Geo-Politik, further asserted, President stated that following a science-based as well as a targeted approach, they had adapted their response in light of the evolving situation to safeguard the life and the health of the citizens of China to the greatest extent possible.
