Greece: Six traffickers, including three nationals and three foreigners, were on May 11 and 12, 2023, in the areas of Evros, Rodopi and Drama by police officers from the Police Departments of Alexandroupolis, Rodopi, Orestiada and Drama, who were pushing illegal immigrants into the country in six different cases.
More specifically, in the first case, yesterday morning on a rural road in Evros, police officers of the Tycheros Border Guard Department of the Alexandroupoli Police Department arrested a foreign smuggler because they spotted him driving a car without a driver’s license and illegally transport two (2) illegal immigrants into the country.
In addition, it emerged that the vehicle was reported embezzled on 4-25-2023 to the Attica police department.
In the second case, the same morning in a rural area of Evros, police officers of the Border Guard Department of Orestiada arrested the second foreign smuggler because they spotted him guiding four (4) illegal immigrants on foot.
In the third case, in the morning of the same day in the settlement of Rodopi, police officers of the Sapon Border Guard Department of the Rodopi Police Department arrested a local trafficker because they spotted him driving a private car and illegally transporting inside the country eight (8) illegal immigrants.
In the fourth case, on the same morning in the area of Drama, the third foreign smuggler was arrested by police officers of the Special Operations Intervention Group of the Drama Police Department because they spotted him driving an I.X.E. car and illegally transport four (4) illegal immigrants into the country.
It is noted that the perpetrator, who lacks a driver’s license, initially did not comply with a police stop sign, developed speed and continued on his way while he then stopped his vehicle and was arrested.
In addition, it emerged that the vehicle was reported stolen on 5-5-2023 by the Thessaloniki police department.
In the fifth case, yesterday afternoon on the Iasmou-Dialampi provincial road, police officers of the Iasmou Border Guard Department of the Rodopi Police Department arrested the second local trafficker because they spotted him driving an I.X.E. car and illegally transport seven (7) illegal immigrants into the country.
In the sixth case, today in the early hours of the morning, in the settlement of Feron Evros, policemen of the Border Guard Department of Feron of the Alexandroupoli Police Department arrested the third local smuggler because they spotted him driving a car. car and illegally transport eight (8) illegal immigrants into the country.
The above mentioned vehicles, sums of money and mobile phones were seized.
The arrested will be taken to the competent Prosecutors, while the preliminary investigation for the six cases is carried out by the Border Guard Departments of Tycheros Alexandroupoli, Sapon Rodopi, Orestiada, Kato Nevrokopi Drama, Iasmos Rodopi and Feron Alexandroupoli.
