Belgium, Europe: The latest figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute indicate a 24 percent increase in daily hospital admissions because of the COVID-19. The maximum number of admissions in hospitals every day who have been tested positive for the virus currently stands at 1,022.
On Tuesday, the data that has been updated revealed that the predicted COVID-19 summer wave may already be upon us, as 2,756 COVID-19 cases have been reported on a per-day basis between June 11 and 17, it has been increased by 46 percent from the previous week.
Moreover, between June 14 and 20, there was an average of 75.6 hospital admissions per day because of the virus, which has been increased by 24 percent from the previous reference period. In total, about 1,022 of the individuals has been tested positive for the virus are currently admitted to the hospital, with 58 people that are getting the treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Currently, the reproduction rate of the virus is 1.16, which has been increased by 0.04 as compared to Friday. According to the information shared by the virologist, when the indicator is above 1, it depicts the information that the virusโs transmission rate is accelerating. This might be linked to the emergency of new BA.4 and BA.5 variants in Belgium.
For the present, 5.3 persons die on average per day while carrying the virus, a 16 percent decrease from the instituteโs previous findings. This takes the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 31,868 since the pandemicโs outbreak.
