India, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Odisha on Saturday to assess the situation following the triple train accident.

The PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) tweeted that PM Narendra Modi is set to depart for Odisha to assess the aftermath of a train accident. Prior to this, the PM chaired a meeting to evaluate the situation in Odisha, where three trains collided, resulting in the deaths of over 238 individuals.

Indian Union Home Minister Amit Shah was also present at the meeting called by Prime Minister.

According to the South Eastern Railway’s most recent estimates, the train accident involving the Bengaluru-Howrah Express, Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, and a goods train in Balasore resulted in a death toll of 261.

According to the reports, the South Eastern Railway said that around 650 passengers got injured and hospitalized in Gopalpur, Khantapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Soro.

According to the preliminary report by the State Emergency Operation Center, around 900 people are injured. The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed Mi-17 helicopters to evacuate the deceased and injured.

On Friday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of 3 Lakh rupees to the kin of the deceased. And this ex-gratia amount will be distributed from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of the dead.

Moreover, Many worldwide leaders, including the US President, the Chinese president and their Premier, the Prime Minister of Japan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the President of France, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, also expressed their condolences regarding the rail accident in Odisha.

In return, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked them via his official Twitter account, in which he mentioned, “Thanks for your kind words in their condolence messages expressing gratitude to world leaders representing their sympathy and support for the kin of the Odisha triple train tragedy victims.”
