Ghent, Belgium: Kevin De Bruyne was in Ghent, Belgium, his hometown, for a live Q&A with Geert De Vlieger as part of the Manchester City Treble Trophy Tour. More than 700 fans were in attendance during the Treble Trophy Tour on the road to Ghent, the home town of Kevin De Bruyne.
Speaking about his injury, the City’s midfielder says that his recovery from injury is ‘going well’, but announcing a return date is ‘not an option at the moment’.
“We are three months in, and I am doing very well; everything is on track. I underwent my surgery with Geert Declercq. The City is in daily contact with him and Lieven. But they have not given me a deadline to play football again”, says de Bruyne.
Kevin De Bruyne made it clear that he does not intend to leave Manchester City; he believes he can play at the highest level until he’s 36, 37 and even 38 years old.
The Belgian and Man City midfielder is now solely focused on his return from injury. He is anticipated to play his first game back from injury at the Etihad against Liverpool on November 25.
De Bruyne is out from Man City’s squad due to a hamstring injury since August 12, 2023, during the Premier League match against Burnley. It was the same problem that forced him to be substituted during the UCL final against Inter on June 11, 2023, at Atatรผrk Olympic Stadium.
The Belgian star player emphasizes that he had never experienced this before and never had such a severe injury. “A hamstring operation isnโt very common either. After the match against Burnley, we took scans, referred to several surgeons – they all said I needed surgery,” said De Bruyne.
Kevin De Bruyne didn’t attend this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony. He finished at rank 4th, following the winners Lionel Messi, Erling Halland and Kylian Mbappe.
On his absence at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, De Brunye commented that the value of the award had been diluted because the name of the winner was leaked one week prior to the ceremony.
He added that if the award were fair, then Haaland would have won it. “he did everything he could have done. Still, he lost.”
Erling Haaland is the first player in history to win UEFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season, Premier League Golden Boot, Champions League top scorer, FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League, and not win the BallondOr, finishing second.
