EU to check applications from Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova to become member of EU

The representatives of the EU Member States have made the decision that the European Union should examine the applications that have been submitted by the government of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova to become the members of the EU in the light of Russia’s full-scale military operation.

The last Monday, the plan was made during a gathering with the COREPER II, which is included with each of the Member States’ permanent representatives as well as is currently chaired by the permanent representative of France, Océane Thieriot.

Along with this, on the official Twitter account of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, it stated, “COREPER II agreed to invite EU Commission to present an opinion on each of the applications for EU membership submitted by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. ”

The Council will now introduce a written procedure as well as seek the opinion of the European Union Commission on the matter.

On February 28, it was the fourth day of the Russian attack in Ukraine. The latter’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has made the declaration through his official Facebook account that he had signed the application for the membership of the EU.

Moreover, in the post, there was a video in which president Zelensky has advised the EU authorities to permit Ukraine’s immediate accession, which he called a special procedure.

He mentioned in the video, “Our goal is to be with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal…I am confident that it is fair. I am confident we have deserved it. I am confident that all this is possible.”

On the other hand, the Twitter user (@DaroRa18018) has commented under a Tweet of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, “The process is long and complex, and the final step requires the approval of all 27 member states. What are they waiting for until Russia attacks another country? The decision should be made immediately, and it’s about the lives of millions of people and the continued existence of Europe.”
