Brussels, Belgium — Astronomers and stargazers across Belgium are preparing for a spectacular celestial event as the annual Perseid meteor shower is set to illuminate the night skies next week.
This year’s meteor shower, linked to the Swift-Tuttle Comet, is expected to peak in the early hours of Tuesday, August 13, promising a breathtaking display for those fortunate enough to witness it.
The Perseid meteor shower occurs each year when Earth passes through the debris left by the Swift-Tuttle Comet, which completes an orbit around the sun every 133 years.
As Earth intersects the comet’s path, comet dust particles enter the Earth’s atmosphere at high speeds, burning up and creating luminous streaks across the sky.
