Ukraine: The richest businessman of Ukraine, Oleksiy Vadatursky has been killed in the Russian shelling of Ukraine’s southern city of Mykolaiv. Oleksiy and his wife Raisa succumbed to death when a Russian missile hit their home overnight, as per locals.
Vadatursky was famously a ‘Grain Tycoon’ of Ukraine and recipient of ‘The Hero of Ukraine’ award. ‘Nibulon’ , owned by Vadatursky, is a company indulged in business of exporting grains. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his grief, calling his demise a significant loss to the nation.
Mykolaiv mayor Oleksandr Senkevych stated this was probably the most fatal and heaviest bombardment by Russia over Ukraine, killing country’s one of the biggest business giants. A lot of destruction has been done, blowing away homes, a hotel, a sports complex along with two school campuses and a service station.
The city of Mykolaiv is on the main route to Odesa, which is Ukraine’s biggest port on the Black Sea. This has been the major target of Russia as it has been invaded multiple times since the beginning of the war from February 24.
The regional leader Vitaliy Kim has mourned the loss of Vadatursky. Mr Vadatursky’s contribution to the development of the agricultural and shipbuilding industry, the development of the region is invaluable”, said Kim.
Russia is believed to have deliberately targeted the Ukrainian businessman. The missile had directly hit the Vadatursky’s bedroom, making speculations even more believable that the hit was intentional and missile was being guided towards him.
Nibulon, owned by Vadatursky, has highly contributed to Mykolaiv’s infrastructural development. It had built various storage facilities to facilitate grain export.
Russia and Ukraine are the major grain exporters worldwide. Therefore, this war has disrupted the flow of grains throughout the countries . This ultimately implies the high rate of inflation in food prices in the importing countries.
