India, Delhi: During their bilateral meeting on Monday at Hyderabad House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for inviting him to attend the G7 Summit in Japan later this year. The Indian PM also mentioned the invitation during a joint press statement, where he acknowledged the Japanese leader’s invitation to the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Hiroshima in May.
PM Modi expressed his warm welcome to Japanese PM Fumio Kishida during his visit to India. PM Modi acknowledged that he has met PM Fumio Kishida multiple times in the past year and every time, he has observed his positive attitude and dedication towards strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Japan. PM Modi believes that PM Fumio Kishida’s visit will contribute to maintaining the momentum of this relationship.
PM Modi expressed his pleasure in welcoming the Japanese Prime Minister to the G20 Summit in September of this year. As India is the G20 chair for this year and Japan is currently presiding over the G7, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the meeting in terms of collaborating while considering the goals of both countries.
In his statement following the discussions, PM Modi emphasized that the meeting aimed to represent the interests of the global South and reinforce the relationship between India and Japan.
PM Modi, he discussed India’s goals and priorities for the G20 with his Japanese counterpart. He stated that their primary objective is to represent the interests of the global South, and he has elaborated on this matter with the Japanese Prime Minister. PM Modi added that the Indian culture of “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” emphasizes inclusiveness and bringing everyone together.
Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted that the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan is based on shared democratic principles and the rule of law on the international stage.
According to PM Modi, strengthening the partnership between India and Japan is not only beneficial to the two countries but also to the wider Indo-Pacific region, as it will promote peace, progress, and stability. The two leaders discussed the progress made in their bilateral relationship and saw it as an opportunity to collaborate on shared interests and priorities.
PM Modi mentioned that both countries have focused on logistics, food processing issues, and MSMEs under the India-Japan Competitiveness Partnership, which was established in 2019. He expressed optimism that discussions and consultations between the two nations will continue and the India-Japan relationship will reach new heights. PM Modi also expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail project.
The theme for the India-Japan Tourism Exchange Year 2023 is “Connecting the Himalayas with Mount Fuji”.
PM Modi emphasized that the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership is founded on shared democratic principles and respect for the rule of law in the international arena. He also stressed the importance of strengthening this partnership, as it promotes peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
During the meeting, both sides discussed various regional and global issues that are of mutual interest, with a particular focus on cooperation in areas such as economy and commerce, climate and energy, defence and security, and skill development.
In addition to the talks, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida paid a visit to Rajghat and offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi during his two-day official visit to India.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar welcomed the Japanese Prime Minister at the Palam airport, marking Kishida’s second visit to India since assuming the role of Prime Minister of Japan.
