New Delhi [India]: Bhutan King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, is on India tour for three days, and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi received him on Tuesday (04–4-23) ahead of their bilateral ties.
The meeting between two leaders is consider as a opportunity to improve their bilateral relations.The official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Arindam Bagchi, informed about the meeting between the two leaders on Twitter.
The Official spokesperson of MEA tweeted in which he stated, “Taking forward unique relationship of friendship & cooperation. PM @narendramodi received His Majesty the King of Bhutan ahead of their talks. An opportunity to take stock of progress in bilateral ties.”
On his first day, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, attended paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. On the same day he signed the vistors book at Rajghat.
The official representative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, posted on Twitter to express that the King of Bhutan paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, which is a tribute to the enduring influence of Gandhi. Earlier on Tuesday, he met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
He arrived in India on Monday, and was welcomed by the Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who later paid him a visit in the evening. Jaishankar also stated that, “In truly apprecites the Bhutan King’s motive of advancing the special relationship with India.”
India President Droupadi Murmu invited Bhutan King in India, and he also called President Murmu later on Tuesday. The king came in India with Bhutan’s Foreign Minister Dr Tandi Dorji and other senior officials.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that King Wangchuck’s visit aligns with the customary practice of frequent high-level interactions between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) observed that the relationship between India and Bhutan is exceptional, marked by mutual comprehension and reliance, and founded on amicable association and collaboration.
According to the external affairs minister, the Bhutan King’s visit provides an opportunity for both countries to review their collaborative efforts and further strengthen their close partnership in various areas, including economic and developmental cooperation.
To maintain the unique relationship between India and Bhutan, both nations have a tradition of frequent high-level exchanges, such as the visits made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2019 and by Jaishankar in 2019 and April 2022.
Additionally, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra visited Bhutan in January of this year. In February 2023, a Parliamentary delegation from Bhutan, led by Wangchuk Namgyel, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan, met with President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
