MEP Assita Kanko expressed that transwomen get to triumph as a ‘woman’, not as a ‘menstruating person’ or a ‘person with a womb’. She voluntarily raises her voice against the people who discriminate transwomen from women.
Furthermore, she stated that some people still dare to call women and trans women a “person with a womb” or “menstruating person” to avoid the word “woman”.
MEP Assita Kanko also asked the general people of Belgium and the general people across the country, “What is being a woman now? ”
She added, “I don’t want to be a “menstruating person“: I am a woman, and I am proud of it.”
Additionally, MEP Assita Kanko further extended that if she were a trans woman, she wouldn’t unpack it and hope no one sees it or comes to know so she could go through life as a normal woman, but some put that in the paint. “I am not a real woman, but a trans woman”.
Concerning this, she stated that some journalists are making a big deal out of it, and it does sound like seeking attention by stigmatizing yourself.
Meanwhile, MEP Assita Kanko also advises those who have not considered as a woman but ‘menstruating persons’ and ‘persons with a womb’. She added, “You do what you want, but making it a big deal makes her sick. Just do it normally”.
MEP Assita Kanko also extended herself in the comment section, adding, “I know trans people personally and have long forgotten that they are trans because they just act normal and don’t make an issue about it. I have also been busy with many files about that in parliament and have always defended human rights.”
She also stated that she doesn’t think it’s constructive that people can easily make such a big deal of that and often tries to get rid of the word ‘woman’, which won’t help anyone move forward.
