Oscar-winning France actors chopped their hair off in support of protesters in Iran

France: Some of the Oscar-winning skilful actors, the other French screen, and music stars chopped their hair off in a video posted on Wednesday in support of the protesters in Iran.

Marion Cotillard, Isabelle Huppert, Juliette Binoche and more film and music stars shared their video on their official Instagram account.

Binoche mentioned in the statement, “For freedom,” as she hacked a lege handful of hair off the upper part of her head with a pair of scissors before brandishing it in front of the camera.

Moreover, the hashtag on the video is outlined as “HairForFreedom,” which comes with Iran being engulfed by anti-government protests. The death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini sparked them after her arrest for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.

Some of the demonstrators from Iran have publicly hacked off locks of hair at the protest, as well as the gesture has spread.

The glimpse of the women elsewhere cutting their hair to show solidarity with Iranian women has gone viral, from Turkish singer Melek Mosso on stage the previous week to women in Lebanon as well as Syria to Swedish lawmaker Abir Al-Sahlani in the halls of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday. A museum in Rome is collecting locks of hair to present to the Iranian Embassy.

An Iranian political scientist based in France and specialising in Iran, Dorna Javan, mentioned in the statement, “For women to cut their hair in Iran is a form of protest … a symbol of standing against the mandatory hijab.

She added that such a visual gesture is a way for women all over the globe to rally around the Iranian women’s plight.
