A man was injured in a knife attack on Wednesday evening in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek, near Rue d’Aerschot, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the junction of Rue d’Aerschot and Rue Quatrecht, an area known for its busy streets and nightlife. According to police spokesperson Katlien Breugelmans from the Brussels-North police zone, officers were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of a stabbing.
“Yesterday, around 6 p.m., our officers were called to the junction of Rue d’Aerschot and Rue Quatrecht after a person was injured with a knife,” Breugelmans said. “The victim was promptly attended to by emergency services and transported to the hospital. Their life is not in danger.”
Emergency medical teams provided first aid before the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the victim’s identity or details regarding the extent of the injuries sustained.
Police officers secured the area shortly after the incident, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Forensic teams were seen examining the pavement and nearby alleyways as investigators worked to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the attack.

The Brussels-North police zone, which covers Schaerbeek, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, and Evere, confirmed that a judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the Brussels public prosecutor’s office.
Residents in the area expressed concern about the rise in violent incidents near Rue d’Aerschot, a district known for its mixed commercial and residential character. “It’s worrying because this is not the first time something like this has happened here,” said a local shopkeeper who witnessed the aftermath. “We need more police patrols in the evenings.”
