India launches first luxurious cruise ship from India to Sri Lanka

India: According to various news sites from India, the Indian Union Minister for Port, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, launched the first-ever Indian cruise ship to Sri Lanka from the Chennai Port on Monday.

One of these luxury ships of India, named Cordelia Empress, will reach Sri Lanka Hambantota Port on June 7 (today).

From Sri Lanka, it will sail to Trincomalee and dock there for a day before sailing back to Chennai on June 9.

Cordelia Empress ship is one of the most luxurious ships from India features a huge shopping area, pubs, a swimming pool, a casino, a food court, spas, a play area, theatres and others.

Addressing a gathering on the ship, the minister said, โ€œItโ€™s the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote cruise tourism in our country. The initiatives the Chennai Port Authority and the Tamil Nadu governmentโ€™s tourism department take are praiseworthy.โ€

He also said that the Indian government has started building international cruise terminals in Mumbai at Rs 5,000 crore. It will be ready soon,” he said.

According to Cordelia CEO Jurgen Bailom, this Cordella ship can carry 50,000 passengers from India to Sri Lanka in the upcoming four months. The cruise line will offer three, four, and five-night cruise options to Sri Lanka from Chennai.
