Brussels Enhances Connectivity: New Lane Opens Path to Tour & Taxis Park for Pedestrians and Cyclists

In a bid to enhance accessibility and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, the City of Brussels has announced plans to open an additional lane providing easier access to the Tour & Taxis Park.

This development comes as a relief to many residents and commuters who previously had to take a long route around the park to reach their destinations.

The initiative involves opening up sites along Rue Dieudonné Lefèvre in the north, facilitating direct access to the park from the Tivoli neighborhood.

The gate between the BE-HERE business center and the postal sorting center will be unlocked daily from 06:00 to 19:00, allowing walkers and cyclists convenient passage to and from the park and Avenue Anna Boch.

Anaïs Maes, Brussels City Councillor for Urban Planning and Public Spaces, expressed the necessity of this agreement, stating, “Tour & Taxis Park has many access roads, but the connection to the Tivoli neighborhood was still non-existent.”

She emphasized the significance of this development in improving soft mobility between Laeken and the city center.

The forthcoming construction of the Drève Maritime, set to become the third public road in the emerging urban neighborhood alongside Drève du Parc and Avenue Anna Boch, underscores the city’s commitment to sustainable transportation infrastructure.

Maes highlighted the challenges faced by residents living in close proximity to the park, who previously had to take a lengthy detour to access it.

She praised the collaborative efforts that led to the agreement, expressing her satisfaction with the outcome that benefits all parties involved.

With validation from both the Port and the City Council of Brussels, the Public Works departments are poised to commence work on implementing the cycle path.

The scheduled works, slated for the end of the summer, mark a significant step towards realizing improved mobility in the area.

Bart Dhondt, Brussels City Councillor for Mobility and Public Works, acknowledged the anticipation among parents in the neighborhood for a safe bicycle connection to facilitate their children’s commute to school via the Tour & Taxis park.

He affirmed the city’s commitment to addressing this need in the short term, pending final reconstruction plans.

As the project moves forward, residents and commuters alike can look forward to enhanced accessibility and connectivity, fostering a more sustainable and pedestrian-friendly urban environment in Brussels.
