BMW is on track to maintain its dominance in the Belgian automotive market for the fourth year in a row, with around 54,000 new cars expected to be delivered to customers in Belgium by the end of 2024.
The German automaker is also set to reach a record 60,000 deliveries across the Belux region, which includes both Belgium and Luxembourg, according to BMW-Belux CEO Alexander Wehr, who shared the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday.
This year, BMW leads the Belgian car market with a market share of 11.4%, surpassing Volkswagen, which recorded 39,937 new registrations, and Audi, with 31,394.
These figures come from the latest data provided by FEBIAC, the Belgian automobile and cycle federation, showing BMW’s continued popularity in the country. Compared to the same period in 2023, the companyโs market share has seen a notable increase from 10.4% to 11.4%.
BMW’s success in the region is impressive when compared to global sales figures, with the Belux market boasting the highest number of BMW sales per million inhabitants worldwide.
In the first 11 months of 2024, BMW’s sales per million inhabitants in Belgium and Luxembourg stood at 4,389, significantly ahead of Germany’s 2,439 and Switzerland’s 2,074.
As part of its strategy for 2025, BMW aims to not only retain its position as the leading car brand in the region but also anticipates further growth in market share.
Wehr highlighted the strong sales performance driven by the companyโs commitment to innovation and sustainability, particularly with the increasing demand for electric vehicles.
For the first time, more than half of BMW’s new car orders in Belux are for fully electric vehicles, with 62% of orders placed by the end of the third quarter of 2024.
In terms of actual registrations, 38% of BMWs in Belux are fully electric, a notable increase from previous years.
In comparison, the overall market for electric vehicles in Belux accounted for 27% of all car registrations, with Europe seeing 15% of new car registrations as fully electric.
This growth in electric vehicle sales has contributed to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions from BMW cars in Belgium. The average CO2 emissions for a BMW registered in Belgium have nearly halved in just two years.
In 2022, the average CO2 emissions of a new BMW in Belgium were 84 grams per kilometer, while in 2024, this figure has dropped to 46 grams per kilometer, reflecting the brandโs push towards sustainability.
Wehr also pointed out that the professional market plays a crucial role in driving the shift towards electrification.
He noted that many businesses and fleet owners in Belgium and Luxembourg are increasingly opting for electric vehicles as part of their corporate sustainability efforts.
Looking ahead, BMW is poised to continue its leadership in the region, capitalizing on its strong sales performance and its commitment to environmental responsibility.
With a robust portfolio of electric vehicles and a growing presence in the professional sector, the company is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for sustainable mobility solutions in Belgium and Luxembourg.
