Amazon has announced plans to invest more than €1 billion in Belgium between 2025 and 2027, marking its largest financial commitment in the country to date.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a Belgian economic mission in California. The investment aims to create jobs, expand infrastructure, and strengthen partnerships with local businesses, including Bpost, Amazon’s primary delivery partner in Belgium.
Eva Faict, Managing Director of Amazon Belgium and the Netherlands, said the investment would help accelerate deliveries, with same-day delivery services expected to launch in the coming months.
“Amazon will diversify its operations, and Amazon Logistics won’t work alone,” Faict explained. “We will continue working closely with Bpost while enhancing our logistics chain to support faster delivery options.”
The initiative is also expected to create significant employment opportunities. Amazon currently employs around 400 people in Belgium, but that number is projected to grow as part of the new expansion, although no specific figures were disclosed.
Faict emphasized Amazon’s commitment to nurturing local talent and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through technology. “We want to help Belgian SMEs grow both locally and internationally,” she said, adding that Amazon will invest in artificial intelligence to better assist partner businesses.
Since the launch of Amazon.com.be in October 2022, more than 1,000 Belgian companies have used the platform to reach new customers. The company has also created hundreds of jobs and strengthened partnerships with domestic logistics providers.
Amazon’s latest investment will expand its logistics network, delivery capacity, and infrastructure footprint. The company already operates a delivery station in Antwerp, a research and development centre in Hamme, and its local headquarters in Brussels.
Federal Minister Éléonore Simonet praised the announcement, calling it a major boost for Belgium’s digital economy. “This investment reinforces Belgium’s position as a hub for digital innovation while offering exciting opportunities for SMEs in the e-commerce space,” she said.
Independent consultancy Keystone Strategy estimated that Amazon’s activities have already added more than €350 million to Belgium’s GDP since 2015, including €140 million in 2024 alone.
The report also highlighted Amazon’s indirect economic impact, noting that its investments have supported over 1,000 indirect jobs and 200 induced jobs in sectors such as logistics, construction, and professional services.
With this new €1 billion commitment, Amazon’s total investment in Belgium will surpass €1.8 billion by 2027, underscoring the company’s long-term confidence in the country’s economic potential and digital future.
