Brussels, Belgium: Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian star player, equalize Neymar in the top 10 best scorers in national teams after scoring a penalty in the first half of the EURO qualifier match against Sweden.
The Belgian and Roma forward scored 79 International goals in 112 appearances, ranking number 9 in top 10 list. He equalizes Neymar Junior, the Brazilian top scorer who also scored 79 International goals in 125 appearances. Cristiano Ronaldo sits in 1st place with 127 goals for his country, the highest scored by any player in football history.
By scoring a penalty in the first half, Lukaku achieved another milestone, becoming the top scorer in Euro qualifiers, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese star has scored nine goals in Euro qualifiers, and Lukaku now has scored 10.
Shockingly, the match was suspended due to a terror attack outside the stadium, resulting in death of two Swedish fans when a member of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organization opened fire. A taxi driver was also injured during the incident, receiving non-life-threatening injuries.
During the match, a minute of silence was observed for the victims of the terrorist attack outside King Baudouin Stadium. More than 35,000 spectators were present inside the stadium when this tragic incident happened.
As per Belgian authorities, the perpetrator was identified as a 45-year-old Tunisian citizen who entered Belgium illegally and opened fire on Swedish fans.
The authorities reported that two Swedish nationals have been shot dead with an AK and a third person injured in Brussels in an attack which prosecutors are treating as terrorism.
Later, the suspect was also shot dead. After the incident, the Belgian Police put the terrorist threat level on its maximum alert. The Belgian Football Association condemned the brutal attack and sent condolences to the victims’ families.
