October 15 was a special day for French football lovers as the date marks the birthdays of two French World Cup winners, Didier Deschamps & David Trézéguet, who brought France its first World Cup in 1998 in their National Stadium Stade de France, defeating four-time world champions Brazil by 3-1.
Yesterday, both former French footballers received warm wishes from worldwide football fans and players. Didier Deschamps, who currently coaches the French Football team, turns 55, and David Trézéguet, who made history with his lethal goals, turns 46.
The Italian Football Club, Juventus, also congratulated both French men, admiring their contribution to the club. Deschamps, playing as a defensive midfielder for Juventus, won the UEFA Champions League title in 1996.
David Trezeguet played ten seasons with Juventus and scored 123 goals between 2000 and 2010 with 2x Italian Champions and 2x Italian Super Cup winner.
Didier Deschamps is counted among the three individuals who have won the World Cup as a player and coach. The Defensive mid-fielder won FIFA World Cup as a player in 1998 and 2018 as a coach, following Mário Zagallo, Brazil (as a player in 1958 and 1962, as a manager in 1970), and Franz Beckenbauer (as a player in 1974, as a manager in 1990).
He led the French National Team to the 2022 Qatar World Cup finals and ended up as runner-up, so close to becoming the only team and coach to win two World Cups consecutively.
David Trezeguet had won it all and was ready to call it quits back in 2011. A World Cup winner with the French National Team, a Juventus icon and one of the best strikers of his generation, Trezeguet had just signed for Baniyas in the United Arab Emirates.
However, he only played three games there due to injuries. He ended up terminating his contract, and retirement seemed the only option.
