The World Health Organisation (WHO) chief cautioned on Friday that the monkeypox cases in the region have tripled in the previous two weeks and urged nations to do more to ensure the previously rare disease does not become entrenched on the continent.
The monkeypox virus, which suddenly emerged all over the world in the previous month, could have been circulating “Under the radar” for months or even years, as per the virologist Marc Van Ranst.
Multiple cases of the monkeypox virus have been detected in Belgium. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it sees 'no cause for alarm', though it does recommend certain measures in the face of the virus' unusual spread.
