The Minister of Energy of Belgium, Tinne Van der Straeten, announced the beginning of the 3rd part of the energy policy – the social tariff. She said the social tariff is the cheapest energy tariff and was created to protect the lowest incomes.
While announcing the launch of the social tariff through her official Facebook account, Straeten said, “Politics is often abstract and a far-from-your-bed show. Yet it has more of a direct impact than you’d think. I like to look back at our energy policy this summer with a focus on what it means for you. Starting today, part 3: the social tariff.”
“The social tariff is the cheapest energy tariff and was created to protect the lowest incomes. With the social tariff, the cost they pay for their monthly energy bill drops significantly,” outlined the minister.
While quoting an example, Tinne Van der Straeten said that people with a living wage, an increased treatment or a care budget for children with special needs are entitled to it.
“Betting on the most vulnerable pays. That’s what we saw during the energy crisis,” said the Minister while stressing that the social tariff proved to be the most efficient measure in Europe to protect people from rising energy prices.
She also mentioned a bottom line: “Even if you’re having a hard time (a bit), this government won’t let you down with your energy bill.”
Additionally, the Belgian Minister highlighted that the Ministry also saw that the social tariff could be even more targeted and efficient.
