Member of the European Parliament, Anna Fotyga expressed that African countries must be aware of Russia’s colonial policies at the European Parliament in Strasbourg yesterday.
During the plenary session, there was an exchange of views with the European Commission nt and strategies of the EU-Africa.
Anna Fotyga also noticed that, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, there has been full awareness of neo-imperial politics, war crimes and genocide committed by Russia in the EU.
MEP Anna Fotyga extended, “However, there is a need to make our African partners aware, who rightly condemn colonialism and any manifestations of its heritage in modern interstate relations, that the Russian Federation is an encyclopedic example of a colonial state.”
According to the former minister of foreign affairs, Russia’s neocolonial aspirations to gain territories into the Russian zone of influence has yet to be well known in Africa.
Regarding this, MEP Fotyga said, “This is happening directly or indirectly, with the help of structures such as the Wagner Group,”
The former chief of Polish diplomacy added his contribution and asked “if the European Union could raise awareness about this issue in partner African countries. ”
In this context, MEP Fotyga provided a piece of brief information and added, “This is especially important for African countries. This extreme process worsens their situation and affects the interests of the European Union in Africa.”
In addition, Anna Fotyga took to her official Facebook account to share her opinion about the EU- Africa Strategy. She stated that the EU-Africa strategy tries to convince other MPs about Russia and China’s destructive role in Africa.
MEP Anna Fotyga further questioned, “To what extent do the EU delegations in Africa undertake the task of informing about Russia’s neocolonial policy?”
