Belgium’s first day of a three-day national strike has brought widespread disruption to public transport, shipping and municipal services. Trade unions launched the action to protest federal socio-economic reforms impacting pensions, workers’ rights and social security support
"Although it is difficult to specify the extent to which these actions will impact public service, the Regional Agency believes that waste collection rounds are likely to suffer from the situation," the agency stated in a press release
The protest, concentrated in downtown Brussels, coincided with discussions over the new economic pact, which proposes stringent measures for nations grappling with financial challenges
