The operation took place in Anderlecht’s Aumale district on Thursday, March 20, the Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday. Authorities launched the operation as part of efforts to combat drug-related crimes in one of the city’s well-known hotspots for trafficking and nuisance activities
According to the Federal Public Service (FPS) Finance, the illicit cargo was discovered concealed within the wall of a shipping container at Quay 614. The drugs have since been confiscated and are set to be destroyed under official supervision
While customs authorities intercepted 13 large shipments in 2023, only two were intercepted in 2024. Vanderwaeren attributed this shift to criminals adjusting their tactics by shipping smaller quantities, thus spreading their risk
