Solomon Islands: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade joined hands with other partners in cleaning up the streets of Honiara to commemorate the launch of the Safe and Green Games Campaign over the weekend.
A number of events were held last week on Friday to Sunday to commemorate the launch of the event. On Friday 3rd March the official launch of the Campaign was held at Lawson Tama stadium where the Ministry was involved in a march from the SMI Compound at Town Ground to Lawson Tama where the Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare officially launched the event.
On Saturday, a major clean up campaign was held with MFAET officials and diplomatic partners cleaning the streets from the Mission place area up through the road running near the rock haven Inn down to the Honiara City Council area.
Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands, Cornelius Walegerea thanked MFAET staff, diplomatic partners and friends who helped in cleaning up the streets of Honiara on Saturday.
He said the clean up is the first of many more to assist Honiara in its efforts to become a clean and green city as it looks forward to host the Pacific Games later this year.
A combined Church service was held Sunday 5th March at the Saint Barnabas Cathedral to wind up the launch of the Safe and Green Games Campaign.
