The 16th edition of the CinEast Festival has started on October 5 in Luxembourg. This year’s edition is dedicated to Ukraine, primarily focusing on helping the country cooperate with foreign partners to counter Russian aggression.
Day 1 started with the premiere of the documentary “In The Rearview” by Maciek Hamela, which shows the first hours of the life of Ukrainians after the first Russian bombings on February 24 2022. The programme of the festival includes six concerts, three exhibitions and four ciné-debates.
Chargée d’affaires of Ukraine in Belgium and Luxembourg Ms. Nataliia Anoshyna participated in the official opening ceremony with welcoming words: “Cinema has a remarkable power – the power to inspire, educate and bridge the gaps between cultures and nations.
She said, “With Cinema, you can see stories of resilience, bravery and unbreakable spirit. Cinema might not be simply a work of art, but the reality of the world we live in today.”
CinEast 2023 will offer more than 120 screenings of over 60 feature films, as well as six concerts and numerous side events.
A key element of the 2023 CinEast Festival is the Focus on Ukraine programme, which demonstrates Luxembourg’s solidarity with the Ukrainian people, includes 11 feature films by Ukrainian directors or dedicated to Ukraine, photo exhibitions by Ukrainian photographers and concerts by famous Ukrainian bands.
The opening ceremony was followed by a screening of the extraordinary documentary dedicated to Ukraine, “In the Rearview” by Maciek Hamela, a multiple winner of Sheffield DocFest.
The Ukrainian embassy in Belgium sincerely thanked the CinEast team for doing fantastic work in supporting Ukraine regularly and focusing on Ukraine.
