Lady Cathy Ferguson, the wife of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, died at 84. She supported Sir Alex through his life-threatening brain haemorrhage in May 2018. She was living with her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The lady for whom Sir Alex left football so she would not feel alone has passed away. Manchester United announced in an official statement the death of Cathy, wife of Sir Alex Ferguson, at the age of 84.
The 81-year-old Red Devils legend had closed the curtain on his career precisely ten years ago and had retired from coaching to devote himself to his family because his wife, Cathy, reportedly became more lonely than before after the death of her sister, Helen.
The pair met in Glasgow while working at a typewriter factory and have been married since 1966 and in 2013, Scottish football legend Sir Alex retired to spend more time with her.
A statement issued on behalf of the Ferguson family reads: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing yesterday of Lady Cathy Ferguson, survived by her husband, three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family asks for privacy at this time.
Sir Alex Ferguson who is currently 81-year-old lost Lady Cathy who was 84 years old on Thursday, October 5. Her cause of death has not been disclosed.
As a show of respect, flags at Old Trafford have been lowered to half-mast, and both the men’s and women’s teams will wear black armbands for this weekend’s games.
