Afghanistan: Male students in Afghanistan are back on track as universities are again reopened after a long winter break. However, women are still banned from attending classes by the Taliban authorities.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Taliban-led Ministry of Higher Education declared that male students’ classes at public universities would commence on Monday.
However, no formal statement came from the university regarding the resumption of universities for female students. Since the Taliban retook control in August 2021, many restrictions have been placed on women, One of these restrictions, the university ban, has angered people worldwide, particularly Muslims.
As per the reports, the Taliban government banned girl education because they found that they disobeyed the campus rules and came onto campus with their male relatives and rigorous dress code. Afghan women continuously face educational difficulties as the Taliban imposed a ban.
The UN Chief repeated that the basic rights of Afghan women and girls are crushed due to the ban on education by the de-facto authorities. The Taliban government is playing with the rights of women.
However, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, Zabiullah Mujahid, denied the claims and said that their rights had been kept in the country and international community should abstain from exerting pressure on the current administration using the subject of women. They also said people and the community should not make this a political tool.
Moreover, female students in the Taliban continuously fight for their rights and demand to restart the education institutes for girls. One of the Taliban girl students said, “We ask the administration to reopen the schools and all educational institutes.”
