MEP Assita Kanko shared the update about the EP debate on migration, specifically about rescues at sea in the morning on 12 July 2023. She mentioned that, unfortunately, too many people will continue to die trying to reach Europe because that’s how our European asylum system is now completely broken.
She expressed that, Reaching the European continent has become a requirement for obtaining asylum, which is their only mistake. In her speech, she shared some information with the Belgian. She added, “Every death in the Mediterranean is a victim of that system.”
MEP Kanko questioned the general people of Belgian, “When will they see that it doesn’t work? The citizens have been tired of this for a long time and want to see action and clear language.”
In addition, she extended that clear language is just the problem, and whoever has a different opinion on asylum and migration is morally demonized and even cancelled. The result is a one-sided left debate full of taboos.
Furthermore, MEP Kanko expressed her emotions in front of the Belgian people that some extreme parties continue to grow and reap what Europe sows and what shocks her more is that they have so much power to change anything, but they don’t dare to in the meantime.
She also shared a piece of advice to the general people of Belgium about what they must do to stop rewarding life-threatening boat trips with the prospect of residency rights.
Additionally, MEP Kanko extended her speech by saying, “I think we can realize a humane asylum and migration policy if we become more courageous.”
One of the Belgian social media users, Jef Wynen, agreed with the words of MEP Assita Kanko and commented, “It is true that they are in control of how big extremist parties become. Every time at the election, they say they listen to the citizen, but that has also been overturned quickly. In Belgium, asylum is enshrined in the federal government. So to be able to do something about that, you have to get inside there first.”
While another social media user, Bart Viaene, appreciated the dare of MEP Assita Kanko and stated, “Finally an intelligent politician that dares to put the finger on the wound!”
