Brussels, Belgium – July 25, 2024 – In a significant drug bust, Belgian authorities have seized approximately 545 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, also known as meth or ICE, following a coordinated operation between multiple agencies.
The seizure, which took place on July 18, is being hailed as one of the largest methamphetamine confiscations in Belgium’s history.
The operation unfolded with the Brussels Federal Judicial Police detecting a suspicious container bound for a company in Brussels.
The container was flagged during a routine inspection due to its unusual contents. Working in tandem with the Antwerp Federal Judicial Police, customs officials, and civil protection teams, officers managed to intercept the drug shipment.
According to a statement from the Federal Judicial Police, the container contained an industrial magnet weighing several tonnes, cleverly concealing the massive haul of crystal meth.
“The operation took place simultaneously in Genk and Brussels,” the police confirmed. “Upon searching the container, officers discovered around 545 kg of crystal meth hidden within the industrial equipment.”
The massive seizure reflects the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Europe and highlights the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers.
