Italian Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini meets foreign correspondents working in Italy

Italy: The Italian Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, in his meeting with foreign correspondents working in Italy, referred to the course of the Meloni government, immigration and the main road projects in his country.

Responding to a question from APE-MBE, the Italian minister and secretary of the League stated that “the protection of the external borders of the European Union is out of the blue”.

“These days, there is a boat with migrants and refugees in the search and rescue area of Malta. It doesn’t take much imagination to figure out who will solve the problem: Greece or Italy. But only two countries cannot shoulder all this burden”, added Salvini.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure and Vice-President of the Italian Government, “Europe must make a greater effort to deal with the migrant/refugee situation, with solidarity, funding and additional staff”.

As for the new legislation of his country, Matteo Salvini emphasized that “the fact that NGOs are asked, after every rescue operation, to go to a safe port for the disembarkation of the rescued, is completely reasonable”.

In relation to the current internal affairs in Italy, he underlined that “together with the party of Meloni and Berlusconi, the League approved all the choices of the last six months” and that if Giorgia Meloni had not been elected prime minister, he would not have been vice president of the government.

Salvini also presented the plan approved by the government of Rome for the construction of a bridge to connect Sicily with Calabria. In more detail, he underlined that “there will not be any problems regarding the safety of the bridge from possible earthquakes or extreme weather events”, while he predicted that “within five years, 100,000 jobs will be created”.
