India provided medical aid to over 150 nations during pandemic, says Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabhh

Canberra, Australia: In a Keynote address at the 26th Conference of Speakers & Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth- CSPOC in Canberra, Australia, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh stated that “India provided assistance to more than 150 affected nations during the pandemic in the form of vaccines, medical equipment, and medications.”

Deputy Chairman Harivansh mentioned in the statement that, “the nation facilitated the evacuation of stranded foreign nationals from various parts of India to about 123 nations,” according to Asian News International (ANI).

Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha highlighted that, “the COVID pandemic is surely one of the most profound public health emergencies of recent times, where all of the nations around the globe have been affected, through with varying loss of life as well as economic and social disruption.”

Moreover, it has been around three years as well as the world is still grappling with the multiple challenges thrown by the pandemic.

Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, said during the Conference, “the key to mitigating the adverse impact of the crisis, he believes, is solidarity as well as effective collaboration within the comity of countries and India, as one of the largest democracies as well as a responsible global player, has always remained at the leading in the fight against the global challenges.”

Harivansh noted that, “India launched a unique effort called “Vaccine Maitri” to provide COVID-19 vaccines made in India to several nations across the globe.”

As of the starting week of December 2022, India had provided 101 nations and two UN agencies with more than 282 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under this project.

Since the Corona Virus pandemic broke out in India, Harivansh stated that India had adopted a “whole of government” and “whole of society” strategy.

He further continued that they have taken several steps to stop the virus’s spread, fill critical gaps in access to life-saving healthcare facilities, strengthen livelihoods, and bring back normalcy in sectors like employment and education.

Parliament revised the Epidemic Diseases Act, of 1897 to allow for proper safety as well as protection of healthcare staff treating patients and the epidemic, he expressed, speaking of the actions done by the Indian Government during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to prevent food shortages and maintain stable commodity prices during a pandemic, the Essential Commodities Act of 1955 was revised. Through the Public Distribution System, these measures assisted in ensuring food security for vulnerable areas of the nation. He added that in order to satisfy the demands of the pandemic and post-pandemic periods, the Parliament also authorised the budgets as requested by the Government. Because of this, the fact that our Parliament could continue operating during the epidemic is a true testament to the adaptability and power of our democratic system.

The Indian Parliament’s Houses and Secretariats rose to the occasion and made sure that the apex legislative upheld its constitutional obligations during the pandemic.

The Parliament continued to meet as required by the Constitution for regular periods despite the increase in illnesses and restrictions on physical activity, and sessions were physically convened amidst complex COVID suitable safety arrangements in accordance with the World Health Organisation’s standards, “he outlined.

Deputy Chairman further stated that the nation has also developed the National e-Vidhaan Application (NeVA) on the theme ‘One National One Application’. In addition, these developments were to make all the legislative bodies in the nation connected digitally.

Along with this, Harivansh said all of the people in India have always believed in the values of integration as well as unity.

He also mentioned a term, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which means the whole world is one family as a core philosophy.

Speaking on India’s G-20 Presidency, Harivansh stated that as the nation assumed the G-20 Presidency, the philosophy to promote the quote, ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.

The 26th Conference of Speakers & Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth-CSPOC, which will be held in Canberra, Australia from January 3โ€“6, 2023, is being organised by Harivansh, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, as well as it will be attended by representatives from India.
