Greece: The Greek leader of opposition, Alexis Tsipras voiced out against the privatization of water in his latest comments over the motion.
Alexis Tsipras stated, “As far as it is concerned, the Privatization of water will not be accepted by the people of Greece. The strategy of the Mr. Mitsotakis in everything is the one of covering up and complete hypocrisy against truth and justice that is today a requirement of Greek society.
Yesterday the Mr. Mitsotakis, instead of sincere explanations to the Greek people, once again attempted to conceal responsibilities. A few hours earlier he voted on a bill to initiate the process of privatization of water, where he concealed his intentions and hypocritically said that it was not a privatization operation.
This is in total contrast with his statements, where he had spoken clearly that his ultimate goal is the privatization of water.
The things are clear: We see today tragically that this logic of creating profit through privatization of all services is dangerous to society, to security.
If water is privatized, the citizen will have to pay more for it. At the same time, the health and safety standards will be much lower.
Today, World Water Day – and then yesterday’s bill – it’s time to say: Enough is enough. As far as it is. Privatization of water will not be accepted at any cost.
We commit that a progressive local government, with SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, will cancel the Regulatory Authority, but more importantly cancel any intention to privatize water.”
