MEP Damian Careme extended President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula Von Der Leyen and President of Tunis Kais Saied shook hands. He also mentioned that they sealed an agreement for the new migration deal between the European Union(EU) and Tunisia on July 16th 2023.
In the update, MEP Camere stated that the highly-discussed agreement with Libya(a country in North Africa) on border protection, followed by sea exiles interception in 2020, is expanding. The EU is repeating by signing a “strategic partnership” this Sunday, and its migration window is alarming if it concerns the country’s economic development or renewable energies.
In reality, this “strategic agreement” of hundreds of millions of euros is mainly about preventing the departure of exile boats to the EU from the coast of Tunisia and wants:
- Â Allowing strengthened border controls
- Â Tackling the activities of passersby
- Â Fight against illegal immigration
Furthermore, To strengthen border controls, the EU is ready to pay hundreds of millions of euros to third countries, particularly Tunisia, unless Tunisia is a safe third country.Â
Meanwhile, MEP Camere took to his Official Facebook account and stated, “We are talking here about an authoritarian regime, where the rights of exiles are violated daily.”
He added, “We know it, the violations of human rights, the extreme violence faced by the exiles in Tunisia, are abominable.”
This new objection agreement with the authoritarianism of the President of Tunis, Kais Saied, must outrage us as cooperation with third countries is not a solution.
“While the European Union claims to help Tunisia economically, I can only see a neo-colonial Europe, which uses the worst methods, violates the European ideal.”, says MEP Camere
MEP Camere also provided brief information about InfoMigrants, the migration aspect of the agreement between the President of EC, Ursula Von Der Leyen and the President of Tunis, Kais Saied.
