Belgium: A unique Ikebana showcase featuring Artists from across the globe will be hosted in Jette, Brussels. The exhibition is open for visitation at the Sint-Pieterskerk in Jette from August 25th to August 28th, daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The ‘Celebrating Nature and Community’ Exhibition is an initiative of Musica Cultura Jette, brought to life in partnership with Dirk Vannetelbosch, a devoted priest and flower enthusiast from Jette, and myself, Ilse Beunen, an ikebana artist from Antwerp, Belgium.
Ikebana is a timeless Japanese art form which helps people find peace in today’s hectic world. Ikebana connects people to nature and their inner selves while their creativity breathes new life into flowers and branches.
The first segment of the event provided a platform for seven international artists to craft awe-inspiring installations. Following a visit to the Sint-Pieterskerk, the organizers challenged them to select a location and sketch their vision for an ikebana installation, and all centred around the theme of ‘Celebrating Nature and Community.’
Subsequently, the artists were matched based on their sketches and chosen locations. They utilized materials found within the church, supplemented with flowers and greenery.
Working in smaller groups, some participants met for the first time, with the common language of ikebana serving as their communication tool.
Representing diverse backgrounds, the participating artists came from countries such as the Netherlands, Australia, Switzerland, Congo, England, Belgium, and Canada.
While the exhibition’s theme revolves around connection with nature and each other, it was equally remarkable to witness how these distinct artists harmoniously collaborated in small groups. The following week, a second group will continue realizing this unique exhibition.
The exhibition will provide visitors with a chance to new learn new tricks of this art form practised in Belgium and all its cities. People love to learn this art form.
