Brussels-Capital Region witnessed three separate shooting incidents on Monday night, leaving one individual injured.
Authorities are investigating the incidents, which are believed to be linked to ongoing drug-related violence in the area. As of now, no arrests have been made.
The first shooting occurred around 20:30 on Chaussée de Gand in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, located northwest of the city center. Reports indicate that a person was shot in the buttocks and was subsequently transported to the hospital.
Fortunately, officials confirmed that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. Police have initiated an investigation, revealing that this incident appears to be yet another case of gang-related violence, a troubling pattern that has become increasingly familiar in Brussels.
As the night progressed, the second shooting was reported at approximately 23:30 on Rue Charles Ramaeker in Laeken.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that no injuries occurred during this incident, with police finding that the shooter may have discharged their weapon into the air in an attempt to intimidate an ex-girlfriend.
Nevertheless, the police have also opened an investigation into this incident, further highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Less than an hour later, around 00:20, the third shooting took place near Place Bara in Anderlecht. A couple was reportedly targeted by three or four individuals.
Fortunately, no shots were fired at the victims, but authorities believe this incident is also connected to the ongoing drug gang conflicts in the region.
The spike in gun violence is part of a worrying trend in Brussels. According to reports, the number of shooting incidents rose to 35 by August 2024, with additional cases continuing to emerge.
In recent weeks, the area surrounding the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht has particularly suffered from a series of violent outbreaks, raising concerns about public safety.
